Tell us a bit about you and how the project started.
We bought our traditional croft house in 2003. The house is 135 years old, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to convert and extend it to make our family home. We’ve had a wood burner for many years and wanted to upgrade as part of some home improvements we were making.
What made you decide to get a wood burner in your home?
A wood burner was an absolute must have when we purchased our traditional croft house. My husband and I both grew up in homes with traditional open fires which was the focal point for the whole family. We have quite a big space to heat; our living room is open plan with a feature staircase leading upstairs, but our previous stove didn’t give out the heat we wanted (the hotter the better for me!). Our old wood burner also no longer fitted with the look I wanted to achieve in our living room.
Which fire did you choose?
I knew as soon as I saw the Stovax Elise inset fire that it was exactly what I wanted. The fact that it is inset really opens up our living room and the view it gives of fire makes it such feature that visitors always admire it. It is the best thing I’ve bought for my home.
How would you describe your interior styling?
My style has evolved since we bought and converted the croft house 14 years ago. I always kept everything as traditional as possible and everything was very neutral but it has moved on to a more dark and bohemian theme with lots of animal skins/prints and wicker. Oh and plants!
I love a good vintage find, especially my vintage green leather chesterfield and some mid-century pieces. I will always remain respectful of the traditional features of the house which I absolutely love.
