Your Guide to Choosing a Stove

Your Guide to Choosing a Stove

Here are a few key points that will help you make your decision on a stove to best suit your lifestyle as well as your property.

Which fuel type?

Are you drawn into the idea of loading logs into a real fire, or are you looking for instant heat as soon as you get home?

Solid fuel
There are two types of solid fuel stoves: the dedicated wood burner that only burns logs, and the multi-fuel appliance that can burn either logs or smokeless fuels.

Stovax’s wood burning and multi-fuel stoves offer beautiful authentic flames, creating that fireside ambience so many of us love. Ecodesign Ready solid fuel stoves are ultra-green, burning so cleanly that they minimise emissions and comply with Ecodesign emissions limits ahead of their implementation in 2022.

Gas & electric
Gas stoves will give you heat at the touch of a button – offering you a highly-realistic flame picture with ultra-convenience. They are almost indistinguishable from real wood burning fires, along with designs to suit both traditional and contemporary home styling.

If convenience and ease of installation are at the top of the list, electric stoves make a great solution. Providing instant localised heat, and only requiring a standard three-pin plug socket, a Gazco electric stove creates a striking focal point while being installed almost anywhere in the home.

What design?

Now that you have settled on the fuel type you’d like, you’ll be thinking about the design of your stove next. Consider if your home is contemporary or traditional, smaller or more spacious. A stove can be freestanding against a wall or looks just as attractive tucked into an inglenook.

What if I don’t have a chimney?

If you don’t have a chimney there are options available to you. If you don’t have a chimney but are set on a wood burner, there is the possibility of fitting a pre-fabricated system that works in the same way a conventional chimney does. If you are looking at gas, a balanced flue gas stove such as the Gazco Vision Medium does not require a chimney and uses a twin-wall pipe that vents directly to an outside wall.

Where do I buy a stove from?

It is best to go to your local retailer. They will be able to arrange a site survey to assess what the best options are for your home, including heat outputs, and will also be able to share a wealth of knowledge with you for the installation process.
