How to get the coastal look in your home

How to get the coastal look in your home

As summer approaches, you may be reminiscing about some of your past holidays by the sea. Our home interior is often linked to vacation memories, and recreating the same ambience in our own property. One firm-favourite is the coastal vibe. Read on to find out more about how to recreate the coastal look in your own home.

Layer up on texture

The first thing you may want to consider is how you layer the texture in your home. Think neutral, relaxed décor, coupled with rugs, throws, and a variety of different fabrics. If you want to get even more experimental, your texture doesn’t need to stop at homeware. If you have a wood burning stove or fire, like the Ecodesign Stovax Vogue 700 Inset wood burner shown in this room below, a log store is not only a handy place to store wood for fuel, but also introduces some natural texture that is sure to complement the rest of your room.

Blue accents for a beach house vibe

Whilst it’s not always all about ships and blue stripes for the coastal look, sometimes embracing blue accents can really heighten the impression of a beach house interior. Shown here with our Stovax Stockton 5 wood burning stove, this cosy fireside embraces everything quintessential about a coastal home, with ocean blue accents showing in everything from the furniture to the finishing touches.

Go overt with bottled ships, porthole mirrors, or ship lanterns – and don’t forget to dress your mantel, as this makes the perfect location to display all your treasures.

Get playful with panelling

One element that marries perfectly with the coastal look is to play around with panels in your home. Panelling is a trend we’ve seen plenty of over the course of the last couple of years, and it looks as though it’s here to stay. (Read more about 2021 interior trends in our handy article here!)

Panelled walls help to accentuate the coastal vibe, when paired with light colours and relaxed fabrics. In this gorgeous room, we’ve taken panelling to the next level by fitting it to the studwork chimney breast that houses our Gazco eReflex 85R electric fire, complementing the loose fabrics of the furniture and the neutral shades throughout. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, consider white washing or weathering your panels for the ultimate driftwood-effect fireplace.

An extra tip – electric fires are perfect for the coastal look as they offer warmth and a cosy glow in winter, but can be used without the heat in summer. Perfect for those intimate evenings and fireside ambience in the height of summer!

It’s all in the details

If panels aren’t to your taste, but you love the idea of incorporating natural texture to really bring the coastal outdoors into your home, consider the tiling. In this striking room below, we’ve amplified this electric fire media wall by adding wood-effect tiles either side of the fireplace. This fireplace shows the Gazco eStudio 105R in a media wall setting, which complements the coastal look even further with its optional Silver Birch fuel effect, enhancing the link to nature.

When the blinds are drawn, and you’re settling down for a movie or a bottle of wine, the optional Mood Lighting Kit only continues the ambience into the evening – the perfect companion for a coastal home.
