With the ease & convenience of gas, it’s usual to assume that your property is supplied by the mains gas network. Sometimes though, this isn’t the case with some rural (and not so rural) areas missing out.
Before you purchase your gas fire or stove, you should consider your home’s suitability for gas. If it isn’t linked up to a supply of natural gas, don’t be alarmed, many stoves and fires have models that can operate with LPG (liquid gas or propane). LPG is available in many areas of the UK, but check your supplier choices and also consider your delivery and storage options.
Efficiency rates should not vary between natural gas and LPG, but it is worth ensuring that your chosen fire or stove is compatible with your needs by speaking to your local retailer.
When you turn on your Gazco fire or stove, the natural gas you burn for heating will have travelled hundreds of miles. And not only from under the North Sea, natural gas also now comes from Africa and the Middle East in ocean-going tankers.
Gas is delivered to the seven coastal terminals by gas producers operating offshore facilities from over 100 fields beneath the sea around the British Isles. In addition, a newly commissioned terminal at the Isle of Grain allows Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to be delivered to the terminal by sea. It is then transported through 275,000 kilometers of iron, steel and polyethylene mains pipeline to reach the Gazco fire or stove in your living room.
After these mammoth engineering feats by the producers, from an ecological point of view it makes sense to use this gas as efficiently as possible. And, of course, from your point of view the more efficient the appliance, the less expensive it is to run. Gazco’s new high efficiency, glass-fronted gas fires and stoves have been developed to offer efficiencies of up to 93.9%, with many models also featuring remote controls incorporating timers and thermostats.
Older, open gas fires can be as little as 20% efficient (thus 80% of the heat goes up the chimney!) so upgrading to a Gazco high efficiency gas fire can make a real difference. Please can you advise which of your stoves, inset and hearth fires are suitable for LPG gas. Which are the most efficient. We have an unused open chimney behind.
Hello, thanks for your comment. Many of our gas stoves are suited for use with both Natural Gas and LPG with some expections, but for a complete list please see our gas and electric stoves and fires brochure. In the back of this brochure is all the efficiency data and nominal heat outputs for all the various models too. Hope this helps.

what colour flame do gas stoves burn with? Stock images seem to suggest a yellow flame, but my gas kitchen hob burns blue.
Hi Oliver, they all burn with yellow flames, as they use a different air to gas ratio to produce this decorative flame, whereas hob burners are designed to achieve maximum heat and therefore are blue.
