Q. Please briefly describe your renovation project including the style and age of your property
A. We wished to create a new lounge, and make the old lounge in to a dining room. The fireplace therefore needed to be removed from the old lounge and a Stovax electric fire installed in the new room. The dorma bungalow was built in the 1980s.
Q. How long did the project take?
A. Two months to the point of finalising the decorating.
Q. Please give the make, model and size of your fire or stove – also is it woodburning only or multi-fuel?
Q. How long have you wanted a fire/stove?
A. A year.
Q. What were the key reasons for installing a fire/stove? For example were you motivated by ambience, environmental, cost, style and/or warmth?
A. Convenience (rather than an open fire), style and ambience.
Q. What drew you to your particular model?
A. Style; we love the flame effect, the black surround and the fact that it’s inset. As soon as we saw it in the catalogue we knew it was the one!
Q. What type of installation do you have (including the flue)?
A. Inset – no flue
Q. Describe the journey to owning your own stove. Was it enjoyable, straight forward, more reasonable/expensive than you thought, did you find a retailer and an installer easily and locally? Did you have to wait long for the fire/stove and the installation?
A. Choosing the fire was enjoyable, but we took time to ensure that the builder was able to create a ‘fireplace’ in the right area, and that the fire would fit. Our builder had some questions regarding the installation and we contacted Stovax Technical for guidance about whether the finishing materials would be safe (ie plasterboard finished with plaster, then emulsion paint). They were very helpful and we were grateful for their prompt replies to our questions. The whole project involved demolition of an internal wall and blocking up of two doors, so that work was completed first before the fireplace was created and the fire installed.
Q. Why did you install it into your living room?
A. We wished to have a quick and clean source of heat in the room, other than the central heating. The Studio 80 looks great even when it’s not in use, and provides a focal point.
Q. Has the fire/stove changed your lifestyle in any way?
A. Has helped us create a relaxing and warm area.
