Buying a home isn’t always love at first sight. Indeed, for me as an interior designer, my initial reaction to our 80’s house was underwhelming. The interior was bland, Artex ceilings, laminate floors, dated bathroom and kitchen. My husband and I decided to take out the internal wall between the kitchen and lounge to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, which was better suited to how we wanted to use the space. We have designed a functional, yet modern and stylish kitchen.
Details can make a room. One of our a must additions that has really had an impact is the stylish and modern Stovax Wood Burner. The modern look is further defined by a new bathroom. We spent a lot of time focusing on the details in the bathroom, which we love! Sleek, smooth tiling and modern basin was the starting point for this bathroom. Simple and textural, yet very timeless.
What drew you to our Studio Edge+ Inset wood burning fire?
The fireplace in our living space acts as the focal point of the room, creating a space that feels centred and cosy. The Studio Edge+ Inset wood burning fire is a sophisticated and modern styling option, which fits perfectly into our living space design and provide all the aesthetic appeal.
What is your advise to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
Taking on a renovation project is both a challenging and rewarding experience.
But unlike self build, with a renovation you are never starting with a blank page. The process is complex and can be prone to unforeseen issues and expenses, so being well prepared is key to a successful project. The best approach is to repair existing features, make the house safe, and undo any well intentioned mistakes that could affect the condition of the building. Think longevity when choosing a design. If you’re creating your own home, luxury items can always be addressed at a later date, so look at creating a strong canvas to build upon over the coming years. I find it is best to stick to a quality, classic design over passing interior trends.
