Paul, Vogue gas stove, beautiful open plan extension
Paul wanted an open plan living area where his family could spend time together. Although they could not find a house that fitted their exact requirements, they found a home that offered them the potential to extend.

Tell us about your home and what inspired you?
When we were looking to buy our new home we had an idea in mind of how we wanted to live. We wanted a kitchen living area so we could entertain and also spend family time together instead of being separated between the kitchen and other family rooms. We couldn’t find a house that fitted our exact requirements so we bought a house that offered us the potential to extend and design the living area exactly how we wanted it.
What do you love most about your home? What is your favourite feature?
We bought our house specifically with the plan to build an extension and convert it into our ‘forever’ home. I would say that our favourite feature is the extension kitchen living area. We have 2 favourite features; our kitchen island where we tend to spend most of our family time, cooking, eating, chatting, playing board games and the occasional drink. Our other is our Vogue Midi T Gas Stove. When the lights are down the glow from the fire is so relaxing.
What drew you to our Vogue Midi T Gas Stove?
In our old home we had a multi-fuel burner but found that it was too messy. Our new extension has a clean look so we didn’t want the mess that came with the multi-fuel stoves. We discovered the Vogue Midi T in our local retailers John Willetts of Spennymoor (@johnwillettsfireplacesentre) and as you can see it has the log burner look. We also liked the fact that you can see the fire from all sides.
What is your advice to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
We would recommend taking your time to do your research first. Think about exactly what you want and the dimensions required. If possible do what we did and draw your interior design on the floor. We actually used string and bamboo canes on our patio before we decided on the size of the extension. Once the extension was built we used boxes to simulate where our furniture and cupboards would be; this made us change our kitchen design even at this point of the build. Also budget for more that you are quoted, something’s always cost a little more than planned. We would also recommend paying the extra for under-floor heating, this frees the space on the walls where radiators would be and also give an all round warmth to the room. Add to this the relaxing glow of a fire in the corner and you’re made.
If you knew your retailer, can you tell us why you chose them?
I had used the retailer in the past so it was the first place we visited but we did also shop around for other ideas.
