Paul & Sally replaced their inefficient heating appliance in their new home for a woodburner.

In 2011, Paul & Sally Clapp decided to settle in Devon and purchase their first home together: a 1960’s, end terrace, three bedroom house. With their first born’s arrival, their main concern was to provide a safe environment for their expanding family.
As with many homeowners of the recession of the time, one of Paul and Sally’s main priorities was to reduce their monthly outgoings. Their decision to buy a woodburning stove was to help them heat their new home efficiently and cost-effectively.
“We moved in right next door to a local wood supplier, the timing couldn’t be better!” says Paul.
When they purchased their property, the fireplace had been fitted with an unattractive gas appliance slotted into a potentially promising fireplace opening. Not only was the gas fire an old and inefficient model, but its outdated surrounding brick décor did not accomplish the homely look that the couple wanted to achieve in their living space. In fact, it created more of an unpleasant eye-sore!
Like most first time stove buyers, Paul & Sally did not know where to begin the process of purchasing their first heating appliance. Within a week, they contacted their local retailer and they were given an overall quotation of £1,600 which included the cost of the installation and the appliance. A cost that the couple claim would be recovered in under three years of fuel savings.
“The installer took a day and half to install our new woodburner and after a week’s decoration we were able to use it” adds Sally.
The Clapps chose a compact Stovax Stockton 4 woodburning stove which fitted in their existing opening. They also replaced the brick which surrounded the gas fire, to create a cleaner and more contemporary look.
“We are very pleased with the result and we look forward to the winters ahead, which can be tackled with a nice warm fire!” says Sally.
