How long has your business been running?
We set up our own practice in 2009 – Louise Sliney Architects.
What is your usual approach to clients?
I’m lucky to design homes for my Clients that they will hopefully spend a large amount of time in. For that reason I believe in sustainable, low energy designs using high quality materials and finishes.
Do you help your clients to choose their stove or fire? If so, how do you go about sourcing the stove to suit their needs?
I always point Clients towards high quality brands. Stovax’s range offers both contemporary and more traditional designs so it allows the Clients to choose a stove that will suit their home.
Tell us a bit more about your home in Belgooly.
The existing cottage was a two-room building dating from circa 1800, in pretty poor condition.
We renovated the existing cottage using traditional materials and added a contemporary extension to make a three bedroom energy efficient home.
The vaulted double height ceiling in the living room is overlooked by a mezzanine space and the whole area is very effectively heated by the stove. The build took 9 months on site and we moved in Christmas 2008.
What drew you to a Stovax product?
I was looking for a contemporary wood burning fuel efficient stove in a simple design and the Riva F40 with the bench was the perfect fit for the room.
Please note, we recommend the use of decorative/constructional hearths. Find out more about when a hearth is needed on our website. We also advise that there is the required distance between your stove and any combustibles. It’s important to refer to your instruction manual for the minimum clearance distances for your own model of stove.
