Tell us about your home, your inspiration…
We moved from a one bed flat and now have 4 bedrooms so we had a far bigger canvas to put our stamp on. We’ve taken it one room at a time and still have a lot to do. We weren’t overly concerned about flow and maintaining a theme throughout. Instead we wanted each room to have its own special feature or talking point. It’s the log burner in the living room, our map mural in the dining room or the geometric frog tape wall we did in the guest bedroom. Each room should have something that makes it special.
What do you love most about your home? What is your favourite feature?
It was actually a massive Sycamore tree in the garden that sold us the property. We fell in love with the garden. We had to look past a lot of things in the house decor wise as it wasn’t to our taste at all, but it gave us a good reason to redecorate right away.
What drew you to our Stockton 5 Wide wood burning and multi-fuel stove? Have you always wanted a woodburner?
Our home is a Sandstone property built around 1890. It has some of the features you expect from an old property, high ceilings, big rooms and cold drafts! It’s one of the reasons we wanted a log burner.
The previous owners had blocked up the original fireplace at some point so we had to open our back up.
We went for the 5kw Stockton 5 Wide wood burning stove. We chose this one because we loved how big the glass was. It was so much bigger than any other stove we saw of a similar size. If you want a log burner, you want to see this fire.
What is your advice to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
Spend time on Pinterest and Instagram looking for ideas, but don’t get caught up in it. There is so much inspiration out there now that it can seem overwhelmingly. Try not to worry too much about what’s on trend or in fashion and just go with what makes you happy.
Oh and know that your budget will probably disappear before you get finished!
Can you tell us about your retailer?
We were recommended Athena Fireplaces in Stirling and they were fantastic from start to finish. Their knowledge and experience were brilliant and we really couldn’t fault them. They made the full process so easy.
