Tell us a bit more about your home.
We live in a double fronted detached Victorian house in a seaside town. My husband has his own building company so we always knew we wanted to extend the back of the house to create an open plan kitchen and living area. We completed the extension 4 years ago and finally added our log burner this year.
How would you describe your style?
My style is quite traditional and I hope timeless. I like our home to be comfortable and yet still look put together but effortless. My instagram photos are styled but our house is lived in and practical with two young boys. Our home is very neutral throughout with lots of greys and whites. I love colour but I don’t think I could live with it everyday.
Which stove did you choose?
We chose the Stovax Studio 1 Freestanding log burner.
What drew you to a Stovax & Gazco product?
We planned to put our log burner in our new single storey extension, on an inside wall. We had no chimney breast to work with, just a big, wide blank wall. When visiting our home, the fire installer instantly recommended the stovax studio range for the space we had. It is a big open plan, kitchen, diner and living space with very high ceilings. We needed something to heat the whole area. We also had to work with my husbands 65 inch tv on the same wall. The log burner had to be wide enough to not get lost on the wall. We thought about having a built in log burner and media wall but I thought this would be too modern for our traditional home. Building a faux chimney breast and have the freestanding log burner seemed like the right decision. The Stovax Studio 1, with its simple shape and style was just the right balance between our Victorian home and modern extension.
Why is it important to you to have a fireplace?
Our fireplace is what this room had been missing. It creates a focal point in the room, hopefully distracting from the large tv! It has made a large room feel a lot more cosy, even when it is not lit. And more importantly, it is now saving on our heating bills!
What do you like about having a log burner at Christmas?
When you think of Christmas, log burner, cosy blankets and watching movies come to mind. The log burner will be on all day Christmas Day.
What tips can you offer for making a house a home?
Have items around you that mean something. Don’t rush to have everything finished all at once. Pick things up from holidays, days out with family etc. We collect souvenirs from our holidays to decorate our tree at Christmas. We have an Eiffel Tower key ring from Paris, a jar of sand from our honeymoon in the Maldives and a tuc tuc from Thailand. Every year we pull out our decorations and are reminded of lovely times.
