Tell us about your home…what inspired you?
After 8 years living in Aberdeen we relocated for Rach’s new job as head of Fashion at Staffordshire University. We knew we wanted to move to a Victorian property as we loved the features; fireplaces, high ceilings & cornicing. We eventually settled for a property in our home town of Wigan, just a few streets away from where Rach grew up!
What do you love most about your home? What is your favourite feature?
We are lucky to have a lot of the original features; cast iron fireplaces in each bedroom, original doors throughout the house, detailed cornicing and large, spacious rooms that Victorian properties are known for. We also love the space the house gives us. From the outside it looks like a small terrace but it definitely has a TARDIS effect!
What drew you to our Stockton stove? Did you always want a woodburner?
We had the smaller Stockton installed in our Weaver’s cottage in Aberdeenshire and loved putting it on during the winter months. It always made the room feel cozy. We knew as soon as we moved in that we wanted another stove in our living room and the larger Stockton was the obvious choice.
What is your advice to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
Research and plan wisely! Taking your time to really know what you want and planning your budget accordingly will help in the long run… It’s going to be a marathon, not a sprint! We started with the more expensive and intrusive jobs first; a full rewire and boiler replacement. They weren’t pretty but they were worth getting out the way before the more aesthetically pleasing work started. We have then moved from room to room depending on what we felt would best suit us as a family.
