Fiona, Scandinavian style, eReflex electric fire
Fiona from Instagram’s ‘The Monochrome Stylist’ shed some light on her renovations, making an 1970’s property modern and minimalist. The eReflex 85R electric fire from Gazco fit in with her plans perfectly. Here, she explains why.

Tell us about your home, your inspiration
We live in a 1970’s property, we wanted to renovate something a little different having just sold our 1930’s renovation. We wanted to try out a different style which would enable us to show our minimalist and slightly more modern side.
My interior style definitely originates from Scandinavia, I love their minimalist approach to interiors; muted colours, the connection with nature, and the idea of creating a hygge home. I guess I take this one step further and mix it back with a slight industrial vibe and my love of monochrome so it’s my own take on Scandi design.
What do you love most about your home? What is your favourite feature?
What I loved when we bought the house was the landing. (Strange one I know) but the stairs up are central, so when you reach the top, all of the upstairs spans around you and it just has a really great vibe.
What drew you to this Gazco electric fire?
The house had absolutely no features in it, which felt so strange coming from a period property, but we really wanted to add some drama and make each room have a focal point. In the living room, we knew we wanted some sort of fire, but wanted something easy to maintain and wanted it to look modern. We searched the internet and pinterest and just loved the effect that the electric eReflex 85R fire had, and it’s so easy to start up, with a press of a button!
What is your advice to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
Firstly, set a budget for each room and stick to it. Otherwise you get carried away and every time you buy something you say to yourself, ‘we’ve spent this much already, what’s another £100’ and it soon adds up!
Also, if you’re using tradesmen, I always draw up a week by week plan of what needs to be done so we can run through at the end of each week and see where we’re up to. Both my renovations started in October, with Christmas as a deadline, so it was really important to keep on track!
