Tell us about your home, your home, your inspiration…
After renovating our previous 1930’s town house, my husband and I had always dreamed of living in the countryside. In 2018 we managed to get our hands on a 200 year old cottage in the Cotswolds with bags of hidden character. Although looked after, the decor was a throw back to the 1980s and had a contemporary feel, which we felt was not in keeping with the age of the property. As keen gardeners we were keen to explore the deserted woodland and Victorian tip that was down the end of the garden. After a year of hard graft we are finally benefiting from the fruits of our labour and along with our two dogs are fully immersed into the country life.
We have always been inspired by period properties and love the original features and historic values they provide. Country living/period living magazine and social media has been a great platform for getting ideas, as well as many visits to local country pubs. We are also lucky to have friends with great taste and interiors advice and are always on hand when needed.
What is your favourite feature?
One of our favourite features is most definitely our lounge fireplace, which was completely hidden by a fusicha pink wall and a electric fire insert. As we discovered the original fireplace we were able to showcase the limestone mantle and Cotswold stone surround. Being an old house the winters can get pretty chilly so we decided a log burner was essential, with the old Victorian pig style in the garden being the perfect wood store.
After much research we decided that we wanted to purchase a Stovax stove, due to the excellent reviews and feedback from installers as well as looking great.
What is your advise to anyone looking to renovate their own home?
Home renovation is hard work and time consuming, however the patience pays off. I love that every last little detail has been mulled over and thought about at great lengths. Meaning time and love has been taken from choosing the light fixtures through to the door handles. Our renovation tips would be to forward plan in logical steps so as not to double your work load and always budget at least an extra 10% as when does anything ever cost what you originally thought!
