Benjamin Allen Bespoke Homes selects a Stovax Huntingdon woodburner to complete the Moat House

How long has Benjamin Allen Bespoke Homes been running, and how did the business start up?
Benjamin Allen Bespoke Homes was created 3 years ago, but prior to this, it was known as Unique New Homes. The reason for the name change is that one of the sons joined the company and the company was re-branded Benjamin Allen, Benjamin being the son and Allen being the father. Since then, the other two sons have joined the company and the company is equally owned by mum, dad and 3 sons. Allen Dawson has been building homes in excess of 35 years.
What approach do you take with your clients?
A self-build is a client’s dream and more often than not a client is looking for a builder they can trust to hold their hand throughout the whole process from the initial stages of a design, then planning and finally the build. This is what Benjamin Allen can offer and a client can be as involved as much as they like or as little as they like. We pride ourselves on our workmanship and therefore will only carry out a certain amount of builds per year so that the quality control remains throughout.
How did you go about sourcing the stove for The Moat House?
We generally like to use local companies when purchasing products, therefore we usually view the internet and then enter into discussions with the local companies and then go to view their showroom. The reason the Stovax Huntingdon woodburner was purchased over other stoves was because of the design matching the front door, would you believe it?
What’s your favourite part of working on any project?
This is a difficult one as there are so many parts to a project. Initially, it has to be when we gain planning approval for a client. It can be a nerve-wracking 8 weeks waiting for a decision on what is hopefully going to be your dream home, so if planning is granted first time around without having to make any amendments then that is always an exciting time for a client as they are getting exactly what they want without compromise. Then I suppose the other favourite part is handing the keys over to the client so at last, they can enjoy their dream home. We can be working with clients sometimes for up to 2 years so they become like friends and we, therefore, are very proud to hand over a beautiful, quality home that we know they are going to enjoy for the rest of their lives.
