Tell us a bit more about your home project.
We are a family of 7 and a dog, and we moved from a three-bedroom to a six-bedroom house in December 2019. The house was big enough, but the layout and décor of the interior and exterior didn’t suit our family.
We began knocking down the kitchen wall into the dining room straight away, creating a modern, spacious and light kitchen-diner and social space. The light from the pitched roof fills the room and a combination of classic timber and glass meets a newly refurbished modern kitchen.
Outside we have opened up wasted space, made good of barren areas, and decked and grassed the outside. We also have decorated and re-carpeted the whole interior of every room and the hallways.
What fire have you had installed?
The eReflex 70W electric fire from Gazco.
Where did you get the fire installed in your home, and why that location?
We created a stud wall with a TV Screen inside. Underneath, we used old railway resin sleepers to build a focal point for the fire. We wanted this in the new kitchen-diner relaxation space, and chose this space as we wanted the electric fire to be the main feature and focal point of the room, especially in the evening. It gave us an alternative and unique light in the evenings and a real wow feature and talking point.
What drew you to a Gazco product?
Truthfully, the positive online reviews and feedback, the strength and reputation of the brand but more importantly the finish and style of the electric fire was just what we wanted.
What was the greatest challenge when undergoing this renovation?
Having 5 children, it was juggling the work with having usable space. We had our kitchen in our front room for a while, cooking on a stove, and had to wash the dishes in the bath. There was so much dust and mess everywhere but it was so worth the wait.
Why is it important to you to have a fireplace?
We have both always wanted one, we have a real fireplace in the lounge but with the young children we just feel it would be too dangerous in the kitchen-diner. We also just love the glow it gives and the warmth it brings to the room.
Any tips for other people renovating?
Just go for it, don’t let fear and unknowns stop you. As long as you have the budget in place and realistic goals then you can achieve your dream house.
