Tell us a bit more about you, and this project
I have been running an interior design business in Devon for 13 years. I have worked on a wide variety of projects, each with their own unique style. This is one of our projects in Exmouth we have recently completed. Our client wanted to give her home a complete uplift.
What was the brief for this space?
The brief for this space was quite literally “Make me fall in love with this room, again!”. My client had stopped using this space, finding it dated and uninviting. It was important to create a calming and warm environment that the client would look forward to using and could enjoy.
The fire and surround make a strong focal point. How did you choose the Gazco Logic gas fire and the accompanying materials?
The client wanted a fire that looked and felt real with various control settings.
Why was it important to have a gas fire in this space?
It was important to have a gas fire due to its low maintenance while still enjoying the effects of a real fire.
The room feels both modern and timeless. How did you strike that balance?
The fireplace is the focal point, and we built the media unit around it with hidden storage throughout the base, shelving to display ornaments with LED lighting. We added texture using walnut panelling. The base of the media unit is in gloss with a slight sheen and shelves are in matt, which added lots of visual interest. The colour was important, a calming green, which complemented the Gazco Logic gas fire with Vogue front and mantel and overall feel to the space.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to create a similarly calm, cohesive living area?
I would advise them to use warm, neutral tones on the floor and walls, use the furniture whether free standing or built in to add depth to the room using colour or wood. Use textures and build layers to stimulate visual interest which, will create a well-considered, thoughtful space that invites you to relax.
