Stovax offers a wide range of fire surrounds, which are crafted from traditional materials such as wood, stone and cast iron. A fire surround could be the perfect finishing flourish for your solid fuel, gas or electric appliances, and whether you wish to recreate a period look or complement your contemporary tastes with clean, bold lines, there is a fire surround to suit you.

When it comes to wooden fire surrounds, there is a wide variety of period and contemporary styles available. From the grand dimensions of the Chatsworth to the clean lines of the Helsinki, each wooden fire surround is hand-crafted and, in the case of timber frames, the wood is carefully selected from renewable plantations for its close, even grain and freedom from blemishes.

Excitingly, the Stovax range of fire surrounds has been increased to offer further styling options. From this autumn, the Brompton and Pembroke wood fire surrounds can now benefit from a new, elegant Grey finish that reflects the very latest trends in design. To achieve this thoroughly on-trend option, the hand-crafted fire surrounds are finished in a beautiful satin Grey Lacquer to create a surface that is not only lustrous, but also durable.
For a look that strikes the balance between classic and contemporary, opting for a stone fire surround could provide the solution. Available in limestone or antique white marble, each surround is truly unique due to naturally occurring veining, subtle tonal differences or even the presence of small fossils in the case of the limestone. These stone fire surrounds are both elegant and robust and benefit from hand-finished craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, cast iron was a popular material for fire surrounds and Stovax offers three cast iron fire surrounds that take their inspiration from 19th century design. These cast iron designs are perfect for restoring a Victorian property or adding a sense of grandeur to any room, whether you choose traditional matt black or gleaming “fully polished”.

The Professional XQ™ system with an internal installation

The Professional XQ™ system with an internal installation

There are many benefits to installing a wood burning fire or stove into your home, including supplying warmth and creating an alluring feature. Provided you burn wood that is well-seasoned and responsibly sourced, your wood will be a carbon-neutral energy source, as the amount of CO² released upon burning is roughly the same amount as is absorbed by the tree during its lifetime. With advantages such as these, it is easy to see why woodburning is an increasingly popular choice for home heating.

However, the need for a chimney or flue system can limit where you can position your stove in the home. If you want to install your stove into a room without a chimney, or into a more unconventional space, you may feel the odds are stacked against you.

Enter Stovax Professional XQ™ Stove & Fireplace Chimney systems; a complete internal & external flue system which can be configured to suit virtually any installation requirement, opening up new possibilities for you and your woodburning fire or stove. The Professional XQ™ system is highly versatile and can be installed either as a through wall installation or as an internal installation.

What makes the Professional XQ™ system so innovative? Stovax has designed the Professional XQ™ range to be safe and easy to install, using Twist-Lock connections to prevent accidental uncoupling. Sophisticated technical solutions, such as a Base wall support and spigot assembly that can support up to 12m of Chimney System, ensure that Professional XQ™ is on the cutting-edge of flue design.

Professional XQ™ is also innovative when it comes to aesthetics. The Decorative Single to Twin Adapter/Increaser provides a seamless join between the Professional XQ™ twin wall system and the single skinned enamelled flue pipe. If you have an internal installation, the Decorative Ceiling Cover Plate will ensure a clean finish to an opening through the ceiling. Overall the Professional XQ™ twin wall flue system is designed to avoid unsightly joins and untidy edges, ensuring your installation is as attractive as possible.

Some properties may be under restrictions from their local planning authority regarding the colour of their flue system, but this is not an issue with the Professional XQ™ System, as all external components can be powder-coated to virtually any colour of your choice. So whether you are affected by planning regulations, or simply wish to create a certain aesthetic finish, the Professional XQ™ twin wall flue system can be customised to suit your needs.

You can rest assured that the Professional XQ™ range, has been tested and approved by BSRIA and has HETAS approval. The Professional XQ™ range is also CE approved by TUV SUD. Keeping your wood burning appliance clean and well-maintained is a vital part of ensuring it remains as attractive, efficient and safe as possible. Now is the perfect time of year to give your stove a thorough clean in preparation for the winter months. However, it is important to use professional cleaners and the correct equipment, as using the wrong products can result in damage to the stove.

This guide aims to help you understand the best products required to clean your wood burning appliance. Before cleaning, please refer to the instruction manual provided with your appliance. If you do not have the manual it can be downloaded from from our Technical Information page. For more information on where to find the best products to clean your log burner, and how to use them, please contact your local retailer.

Your appliance should be cleaned regularly, according to level of use. Before carrying out any cleaning, ensure that the appliance is cool to the touch. To begin you will need to remove the baffle, firebricks, grate and ashpan, referring to your instruction manual for precise details. There are also videos on www.stovax.tv to help guide you.

Ash Caddy

Ash Caddy

When emptying the ashpan, it is a good idea to have an ash caddy handy. This ensures that ash can be disposed of safely. De-ash your wood burning appliance at least once a week.

In the summer months; and more regularly when the appliance is being used frequently in the winter, you will need to clean out the ash from inside. To remove ash from inside the appliance, it is easiest to use a vacuum cleaner. The Ashclean system by Stovax is a filtration and collection attachment for vacuums that will protect your cleaner and help you gather the ash safely and effectively.

In order to wipe down the inside of the appliance you will need a brush or scraper. This will loosen any remaining ash and debris, which can then be vacuumed. For the grate and any related parts, a wire brush is the best tool to ensure no debris remains. The firebricks can become fragile after periods of use, so these will need to be handled delicately and cleaned with a soft brush.

Stovax uses the latest Airwash Technology in its wood burning appliances, helping to keep the stove glass as clean as possible. However, you will need to clean your glass from time to time. Stovax offers two Stove Glass Cleaners, a gel and a spray. The gel is not suitable for use on printed glass, but the spray is suitable for all glass types. For more advice on how to clean the glass, watch our video.

Thermolac Brush on Stove Paint

Thermolac Brush on Stove Paint

Some types of wood and solid fuel can cause a white residue to form on the glass. If this occurs it should be cleaned off at least once a week during periods of heavy usage. If the liquid cleaning agents recommended do not remove this residue Stovax offer a dry cleaning pad which will help remove heavy stains.

Now that the inside of your appliance is clean, you can turn your attention to the outside surfaces. For them to remain aesthetically pleasing, the outside of your appliance can be retouched with a Thermolac Paint, Colloidal Stove Dressing or Grate Polish, depending on the material and finish. If you are unsure about which product or colour is correct for your model, contact your Stovax retailer and quote the serial number found on the appliance date badge; the location of this can be found in the Instruction manual. Enamel stoves should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth only.

Now you should have the equipment you need to keep your wood burning appliance clean and efficient. As well as this cleaning routine, you should have your chimney swept at least once a year by an approved Chimney Sweep, who can be found on NACS (The National Association of Chimney Sweeps), APICS (The Association of Master Chimney Sweeps Ltd.) or The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps. It is also vital to have your appliance serviced by a HETAS approved engineer at least once a year, ideally in late summer.

With the correct cleaning products, a regular service and ensuring your chimney is swept by professionals, you should have no trouble enjoying your Stovax appliance for many years to come.

Wood burning stove door glass – cleaning tipshttp://www.stovax.com/wood-burning-stove-door-glass-cleaning-tips/ http://www.stovax.com/wood-burning-stove-door-glass-cleaning-tips/#comments Fri, 19 Apr 2013 15:01:19 +0000 http://mt.stovax.com/stovax.com/wordpress/?p=11057 There are several ways to clean your wood burning stove’s glass. This article will provide you with a step-by-step method to ensure that your appliance’s glass is properly maintained.

Stovax stove glass cleaner

Before proceeding with the following steps, always ensure that you use your wood burning stove’s Airwash system correctly and use good quality fuel as this will reduce the frequency with which you need to clean your stove’s door glass.

1. Wait for your wood burning stove to cool and wear protective gloves.

Before undertaking this cleaning operation, make sure that you wear protective gloves and allow enough time for your wood burning stove to cool fully. Do not clean hot glass.

2. Use a damp cloth before applying a cleaning agent to your wood burning stove.

Soot can often contain acidic particles that can cause corrosive damage to printed glass. Therefore, before applying the cleaning agent, remove any dust and loose soot with a moist cloth and buff dry.

3. Use the right cleaning product for your wood burning stove.

For wood burning stoves with printed glass, it is advisable to use a less aggressive cleaning agent such as the Stovax Glass Cleaner – spray. Otherwise, if you have a heavily stained, clear glass wood burning appliance, Stovax’s gel cleaner, Stove Glass Cleaner – wipe-on, would be more appropriate. Please note that the gel cleaner is slightly abrasive and is therefore only suitable for stoves with a clear glass door.

4. Apply the cleaning fluid to a cloth.

Once you have decided which is the appropriate glass cleaner to use for your wood burning stove, apply a little to a soft cloth and rub it over the surface of the glass.

5. Apply cleaning fluid carefully.

A clean wood burning stove window. Shown next to a Stovax glass cleaner gel.

Ensure that cleaning fluid is applied carefully and not excessively as it is important that it does not come into contact with the rope seal around the edge of the glass.

Please note that if the rope seal does absorb excess cleaning agent; it is advisable to replace the rope as soon as possible to preserve the printed finish of the glass.

6. Make sure the wood burning stove is dry before relighting.

Please note that this article is only a guide, the steps may not apply to all Stovax wood burning products. Some wood burning products may be cleaned differently depending on the type of model. Please visit your local Stovax retailer for more advice and information.

The temperatures have dropped dramatically in the last week. If you haven’t yet invested in a wood burning stove, here are our top 5 reasons why you should buy one…

Made from premium quality materials

View 8HB boiler, wood burning stove

Most premium quality wood burning stoves are made from the finest cast iron and heavy gauge steel. Traditionally, wood burning stoves were made from cast iron but as technology progressed, the use of heavy gauge steel was introduced and quickly became popular. Although, cast iron will take a little while to get up to temperature, it is excellent at retaining heat and then diffusing it over a period of time.

Most homeowners prefer the appearance of a cast iron wood burning stove due to its decorative detailing for example; the Huntingdon wood burning stoves incorporate stunning gothic tracery doors creating an elegant piece of furniture in its own right. On the other hand, wood burning steel stoves provide a smoother and cleaner look and emit heat quickly into the room. Stovax’s View stoves sum up the wood burning steel stove look: clean, smooth and elegant.

The more traditional Stockton wood burning stoves and Riva Plus stoves combine the advantage of both cast iron and steel, offering superb performance and value for money.

Cleanburn technology

Cleanburn logo for wood burning stoves

Most Stovax wood burning stoves feature the latest Cleanburn technology. This enables the burning of logs or solid fuels with outstanding efficiency. Incorporating Cleanburn technology results in more heat delivery into the room and less heat escaping up the chimney. Cleanburn technology works by introducing pre-heated, secondary air into the firebox to burn the excess hydrocarbons in the smoke.

CE Marked and HETAS accredited

HETAS accredited logo for wood burning stoves

Most Stovax wood burning stoves are CE marked, look for the CE logo in our brochures or on specific product pages. The CE mark is an indicator that the manufacturing company is conforming to exacting and high standards and is developing products that comply with EU safety, health and environmental requirements. Stovax is proud to declare that many of its wood burning stoves conform with all the legal requirements needed to achieve this marking.

HETAS is the the UK’s official body recognised by the government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances; their logo indicates an accreditation and indicates that an appliance complies fully with rigorous energy efficiency and safety requirements. Look out for the HETAS accreditation logo when choosing a wood burning stove or solid fuel stove or fire as well as an installation engineer and fuel supplier.

Eco friendly lifestyle

Dry wood for your wood burning stove

Using a wood burning stove is becoming increasingly popular due to the fact that burning wood is a great way to provide your home with virtually carbon neutral heat. If you do not have access to land, purchasing wood from a reputable local supplier ensures that trees are harvested in a sustainable manner and helps to improve the local environment. Remember that dry wood results in greater heat output when burnt. We recommend that wood logs have a moisture content that is below 20%.

The wide variety of choice

From the modern, steel stoves to the more traditional looking designs, Stovax’s collection of wood burning stoves is extensive. They are highly efficient and available in sizes and styles to suit most rooms and living spaces.

If you live in a Smoke Control Area, there are also suitable models available that have been specifically designed for use in these areas.

For further information and see a range of wood burning stoves, visit your local Stovax retailer.

Technical advances in stove design such as Cleanburn technology ensure that most stoves and fires have outstanding efficiencies. A Cleanburn wood burning stove results in more heat delivery into the room and less going up the chimney.

Cleanburn technology introduces a supply of pre-heated air through a heat exchanger chamber within the firebox. It is then drawn into the smokestream, where it combust unburnt hydrocarbons to provide a cleaner burn and greater thermal efficiency.

Here’s 5 top reasons why you should invest in a Cleanburn wood burning stove:

Reduce costs

Burning wood can be very cost effective, especially if you have your own coppice. With the recent increase in gas and oil prices, a wood burning, Cleanburn stove will help to reduce your central heating bills and save money.

Fewer emissions

Cleanburn wood burning stoves are very efficient therefore they use fewer logs and give you more heat. Some models can be up to 87% efficient like the View 7 Inset Convector wood burning stove.

Suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas

Local authorities only allow heating appliances that demonstrate clean burning combustions within allocated urban areas. To find out if you are within a Smoke Control Area, contact your local authority direct.

More warmth

An efficient wood burning stove gives you plenty of warmth with less heat going up the chimney and more radiating from the stove into your room. Remember to use seasoned wood that is dry (a maximum 20% moisture content; ideally though you should buy logs that are dryer than this).

Create a stylish focal point

The wide range of available heating appliances allows for homes of various styles and designs to choose a wood burning stove that is suitable for them. From the traditional to the most contemporary look, a stove makes a far better focal point in your living space than your tv!

Visit your local Stovax retailer to find out more about Cleanburn wood burning stoves and to view the extensive collection that is available for your home.
