Gazco’s research and development laboratories are among the most advanced in the world, that’s why Gazco Gas Stoves are convenient, efficient and just as attractive as any solid fuel model.

Convenience

Many homes in the UK are connected to mains supplies of Natural Gas. However, if you’re not connected there’s no problem, all Gazco Gas Stoves can be used with LPG. Whether you use mains gas or LPG, gas means economical heating at any time, directly where you want it. Natural Gas is particularly economical, and costs less per kWh than heating oil, electricity and in many cases wood.

Gas Riva Vision Large with white stone fuel effect

Gas Riva Vision Large with white stone fuel effect

You can often install a gas stove into a pre-existing chimney and your first step is to identify the type of chimney you have. Your Gazco Retailer can advise you on which models will be suitable for your chimney, or if your home doesn’t have a chimney, many gas stove models are available in balanced flue versions. A balanced flue completely seals the appliance from the room into which it is installed, preventing draughts and increasing heating efficiency. No chimney is required to install a balanced flue as a twin-wall pipe vents directly to an outside wall, either horizontally through an external wall or vertically through the roof, depending on the stove selected.

Over twenty years ago Gazco was the first UK fire manufacturer to introduce a remote-controlled range of gas fires. Since then the technologies have been developed and refined, and now all Gazco Gas Stoves are available with upgradeable remote controls for ultimate convenience.

Efficiency

Gazco Gas Stoves are glass fronted, keeping as much heat in as possible. The stoves are made of materials that are good conductors of heat, including traditional cast iron and steel. Balanced flue models often have efficiencies of over 80%, making your gas stove a warming addition to the home. Gas itself also has relatively low CO² emissions, producing less carbon per purchased kW/hr than economy electric, heating oil, anthracite and bituminous coal.

Design

Choosing a gas stove doesn’t mean compromising on style. Gazco produces a variety of designs, including gas versions of highly popular solid fuel models such as the Stockton 5. The Gas Stockton 5 shares the same cast iron door, heavy gauge steel body and traditional styling as its solid fuel counterpart, yet can be controlled by a remote control.

If you crave a large gas stove with maximum impact, the Gas Riva Vision Large could be the perfect choice. This impressive gas stove has a heat output of up to 5.2 kW, making it a great feature for larger rooms. With sleek glass styling and a choice of linings, you can also choose from a realistic log effect fuel bed or contemporary white stones, which can also be customised with a choice of three glass bead sets. A thermostatic remote control comes as standard, so you can programme your stove to welcome you home.

For more information on the range of Gazco Gas Stoves available, contact your local Gazco retailer.

The Professional XQ™ system with an internal installation

The Professional XQ™ system with an internal installation

There are many benefits to installing a wood burning fire or stove into your home, including supplying warmth and creating an alluring feature. Provided you burn wood that is well-seasoned and responsibly sourced, your wood will be a carbon-neutral energy source, as the amount of CO² released upon burning is roughly the same amount as is absorbed by the tree during its lifetime. With advantages such as these, it is easy to see why woodburning is an increasingly popular choice for home heating.

However, the need for a chimney or flue system can limit where you can position your stove in the home. If you want to install your stove into a room without a chimney, or into a more unconventional space, you may feel the odds are stacked against you.

Enter Stovax Professional XQ™ Stove & Fireplace Chimney systems; a complete internal & external flue system which can be configured to suit virtually any installation requirement, opening up new possibilities for you and your woodburning fire or stove. The Professional XQ™ system is highly versatile and can be installed either as a through wall installation or as an internal installation.

What makes the Professional XQ™ system so innovative? Stovax has designed the Professional XQ™ range to be safe and easy to install, using Twist-Lock connections to prevent accidental uncoupling. Sophisticated technical solutions, such as a Base wall support and spigot assembly that can support up to 12m of Chimney System, ensure that Professional XQ™ is on the cutting-edge of flue design.

Professional XQ™ is also innovative when it comes to aesthetics. The Decorative Single to Twin Adapter/Increaser provides a seamless join between the Professional XQ™ twin wall system and the single skinned enamelled flue pipe. If you have an internal installation, the Decorative Ceiling Cover Plate will ensure a clean finish to an opening through the ceiling. Overall the Professional XQ™ twin wall flue system is designed to avoid unsightly joins and untidy edges, ensuring your installation is as attractive as possible.

The Professional XQ™ system can be powder coated to almost any colour

The Professional XQ™ system can be powder coated to almost any colour

Some properties may be under restrictions from their local planning authority regarding the colour of their flue system, but this is not an issue with the Professional XQ™ System, as all external components can be powder-coated to virtually any colour of your choice. So whether you are affected by planning regulations, or simply wish to create a certain aesthetic finish, the Professional XQ™ twin wall flue system can be customised to suit your needs.

You can rest assured that the Professional XQ™ range, has been tested and approved by BSRIA and has HETAS approval. The Professional XQ™ range is also CE approved by TUV SUD. For more information on how the Professional XQ™ can help you install your perfect woodburning stove or fire, contact your local retailer.

Studio Slimline Edge gas fire

Studio Slimline Edge gas fire

Understanding the types of chimney and flue systems available for your gas fire is an important factor to consider when selecting the right appliance for your home. Installing a gas fire to homes without a chimney can now be possible with a balanced flue system. Balanced flue is when an appliance is completely sealed from the room into which it is installed (so there are no draughts and heating efficiency) and a twin-wall pipe vents directly to an outside wall. Homes with conventional flue systems can select from models that are suitable for this type of flue installation. Conventional systems are easily recognisable as either a conventional brick or stone chimney, or as a pre-fabricated chimney system. Each gas fire will be specified whether they are suitable for either a balanced flue or conventional flue installation. It is vital that you consult with your Gazco retailer for any advice and information on this matter.

Once you have identified the flue system suitable for your home, you can start to decide upon which type of gas fire is appropriate for your heating and interior design needs. The choices available are based around two types of Studio gas fire: Open Fronted Studio gas fires or Glass Fronted Studio gas fires. Please note that conventional flue systems are for Gazco’s Open Fronted and some Glass Fronted gas fires whilst balanced flues work in conjunction with Gazco’s Glass Fronted gas fires only.

Both Open Fronted Studio and Glass fronted Studio gas fires can be customised with a choice of lining, frame and fuel bed options, depending on the look that you want to achieve. From stunning landscape and portrait sizes to the double-sided gas fire, these beautifully designed Studio fires are the perfect blend of versatility and style and offer greater installation possibilities for interiors of all proportions. You will be impressed by the range of Open Studio gas fires – one of the few gas fires on the market that will allow installation of a Plasma, LCD or LED television directly above it. Homes that require dual space heating will be awe-inspired by the highly efficient, double-sided Studio Duplex gas fire. For an easier, quicker and more cost effective installation, our Studio Slimline gas fire can be achieved in a wider variety of homes by simply recessing into the internal leaf of a cavity wall.

Whatever Studio gas fire you choose, there is a wide variety of choice to complement you and your home. Why not visit your local Gazco retailer for more information and advice.

Keeping your wood burning appliance clean and well-maintained is a vital part of ensuring it remains as attractive, efficient and safe as possible. Now is the perfect time of year to give your stove a thorough clean in preparation for the winter months. However, it is important to use professional cleaners and the correct equipment, as using the wrong products can result in damage to the stove.

This guide aims to help you understand the best products required to clean your wood burning appliance. Before cleaning, please refer to the instruction manual provided with your appliance. If you do not have the manual it can be downloaded from from our Technical Information page. For more information on where to find the best products to clean your log burner, and how to use them, please contact your local retailer.

Your appliance should be cleaned regularly, according to level of use. Before carrying out any cleaning, ensure that the appliance is cool to the touch. To begin you will need to remove the baffle, firebricks, grate and ashpan, referring to your instruction manual for precise details. There are also videos on www.stovax.tv to help guide you.

Ash Caddy

Ash Caddy

When emptying the ashpan, it is a good idea to have an ash caddy handy. This ensures that ash can be disposed of safely. De-ash your wood burning appliance at least once a week.

In the summer months; and more regularly when the appliance is being used frequently in the winter, you will need to clean out the ash from inside. To remove ash from inside the appliance, it is easiest to use a vacuum cleaner. The Ashclean system by Stovax is a filtration and collection attachment for vacuums that will protect your cleaner and help you gather the ash safely and effectively.

In order to wipe down the inside of the appliance you will need a brush or scraper. This will loosen any remaining ash and debris, which can then be vacuumed. For the grate and any related parts, a wire brush is the best tool to ensure no debris remains. The firebricks can become fragile after periods of use, so these will need to be handled delicately and cleaned with a soft brush.

Stovax uses the latest Airwash Technology in its wood burning appliances, helping to keep the stove glass as clean as possible. However, you will need to clean your glass from time to time. Stovax offers two Stove Glass Cleaners, a gel and a spray. The gel is not suitable for use on printed glass, but the spray is suitable for all glass types. For more advice on how to clean the glass, watch our video.

Thermolac Brush on Stove Paint

Thermolac Brush on Stove Paint

Some types of wood and solid fuel can cause a white residue to form on the glass. If this occurs it should be cleaned off at least once a week during periods of heavy usage. If the liquid cleaning agents recommended do not remove this residue Stovax offer a dry cleaning pad which will help remove heavy stains.

Now that the inside of your appliance is clean, you can turn your attention to the outside surfaces. For them to remain aesthetically pleasing, the outside of your appliance can be retouched with a Thermolac Paint, Colloidal Stove Dressing or Grate Polish, depending on the material and finish. If you are unsure about which product or colour is correct for your model, contact your Stovax retailer and quote the serial number found on the appliance date badge; the location of this can be found in the Instruction manual. Enamel stoves should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth only.

Now you should have the equipment you need to keep your wood burning appliance clean and efficient. As well as this cleaning routine, you should have your chimney swept at least once a year by an approved Chimney Sweep, who can be found on NACS (The National Association of Chimney Sweeps), APICS (The Association of Master Chimney Sweeps Ltd.) or The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps. It is also vital to have your appliance serviced by a HETAS approved engineer at least once a year, ideally in late summer.

With the correct cleaning products, a regular service and ensuring your chimney is swept by professionals, you should have no trouble enjoying your Stovax appliance for many years to come.
