An alternative heating system from NIBE

Although a stove or fire has full capability to heat a house, we know that central heating is often the main port of call for warming the home. Here's why a NIBE heat pump is a great alternative to mainstream gas central heating.

The NIBE Group is an international heating technology company divided into three business areas including NIBE Stoves, which the Stovax Heating Group has been a member of since 2013. The NIBE vision is to create world-class solutions in sustainable energy, offering innovative, high quality and energy-efficient products across each business area.

One further business area is the NIBE Climate Solutions group, and within that, NIBE Energy Systems which focuses on domestic heating systems including heat pumps.

Although a stove or fire has full capability to heat a house, we know that central heating is often the main port of call for warming the home. NIBE heat pumps demonstrate the NIBE vision, offering an alternative to mainstream gas central heating. Designed to extract natural energy from one place and transfer it to another, a heat pump is a renewable technology that provides cost-effective and energy-efficient heating and hot water.

How do heat pumps work?

Natural energy can be found in rock, lakes, air, water and the ground. A heat pump works by utilising this natural energy and sending it back to a heat exchanger where it can provide both hot water and heating.

NIBE Air Source Heat Pump

NIBE manufactures three different types of heat pumps:
• Air source heat pump
• Ground source heat pump
• Exhaust air heat pump

Air source heat pump

A NIBE air source heat pump can operate at temperatures as low as -20°C, and can reduce your energy consumption by up to 50%. Catering for smaller properties to larger buildings, there are 5 different models available. The air source heat pump allows you to heat your home as well as supplying you with hot water. With an air source heat pump, you can also control your heating system remotely via NIBE Uplink.

Ground source heat pump

Two metres below the surface, the ground remains a steady 10-12°C throughout the year. A NIBE ground source heat pump uses this natural heat energy to provide heating and a hot water system. With 18 models available, there is a ground source heat pump to suit varying home sizes and could even reduce your energy consumption by up to 80%.

Exhaust air heat pump

An exhaust air heat pump recycles the warm air that leaves your home via a ventilation system, and reuses it to heat up tap water and fresh incoming air. Ideal for those that are building/developing new properties, NIBE’s energy-efficient exhaust air pumps also create a healthy, oxygen-rich atmosphere inside the home.

Why choose renewable heating technologies?

Fossil fuels are a finite resource, and can also be costly. Renewable energy is secure, readily available, and effectively unlimited. Renewable heating technology helps us to reduce our carbon footprint and is reliable, cost-effective – and ultimately energy-efficient.

The drive for renewable energies, especially in heating and gas, is becoming more and more prevalent for consumers nowadays, so this looks promising. It’s an interesting premise and it will be intriguing to see it adopted in practice.
